3D Energi shifts focus to Otway Basin

3D Energi Otway

3D Energi has exited its Gippsland Basin permit and is now focusing on the Otway Basin prior to its exploration drilling program set to take place in 2025.

The company announced the plans as part of its evolved east coast gas strategy, which centres around the drilling of up to six exploration wells during the upcoming drilling campaign.

3D Energi executive chairman Noel Newell said the changes are driven by the company identifying highly prospective drill targets.

“We now outline a conceptual Otway gas development strategy that explores the application of the well carry transfer from T/49P to VIC/P79 and consider potential subsequent development pathways,” Newell said.

“These are early planning concepts and subject to meeting minimum economics success criteria and a host of relevant approvals, among other considerations.”

ConocoPhillips Australia will act as the operator for the upcoming drilling campaign and continues to plan and prepare for the exploration activities.

The company has continued to narrow and refine the scope of the proposed activity and operational areas due to the feedback from the Environmental Planning process and results from the maturation of subsurface data.

Three operational areas have been defined, with each having their own revised limits on the number of seabed surveys.
