APPEA 2016: a critical event at a critical time

To be staged in the Queensland capital of Brisbane from 5 – 8 June 2016, the APPEA Conference will be a significant celebration of the major strides Australia has made towards becoming the world’s leading LNG producing country. Queensland is now home to the world’s first three CSG to LNG projects, and a major player in the international LNG sector.

With a theme of “Competing for Growth”?, the 2016 APPEA Conference program, associated exhibition and networking activities, is a must attend event for those currently involved in the oil and gas sector and those looking to join it.

APPEA 2016 will celebrate the Australian oil and gas industry’s many achievements – and also take a hard look at the difficulties created by the current low oil price environment.

According to APPEA Chairman, Bruce Lake, at times such as these, the APPEA Conference becomes more important than ever for the industry.

“The best companies use hardship as a catalyst for innovation and forming new partnerships – and the APPEA Conference provides a special opportunity for networking, doing business, sharing ideas and learning about new technologies and case studies that point the way forward,”? Mr Lake said.

As with all APPEA Conferences, the plenary session presentations will be given by global leaders in their fields and key decision makers.

The opening “Competing for Growth”? plenary session will feature high-powered addresses from the Queensland and Australian governments, highlighting their important role in facilitating a positive investment and regulatory environment for growth.

Rounding out the opening session, APPEA Chairman Bruce Lake will outline the current state of the Australian industry, the key issues it faces, and the actions APPEA is pursuing to support the industry.

“One of the key aspects of these events are the concurrent business and technology sessions,”? Mr Lake said. “They help to better inform industry members and to point to new opportunities and new directions.”?

Over three days in June at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, the business and technology sessions will present talks on such issues as implications of the Paris climate change summit, energy policy, the international LNG outlook and project development.

Some of the highlight business and technical sessions include the annual Commonwealth Acreage Release, the regular PESA – 2015 in review stream, and presentations on topics including:

  • New ideas in old onshore basins
  • Diversity and human capital
  • New concepts for process safety and safety leadership
  • Interface between CSG and water
  • Optimising CSG production
  • Coming to an end: decommissioning
  • Innovation via collaboration
  • Exploration and play analysis
  • Market developments and the fall of the global oil price.

“In all, there will be more than 100 plenary and concurrent session presentations – an outstanding program shaped to be relevant to industry plans, needs and concerns in tough times,”? Mr Lake said.

APPEA 2016 will offer a great range of opportunities for catching up with friends, colleagues and peers, or to make new acquaintances at key networking events including the ever popular Conference Dinner, Welcome Reception, Farewell Cocktails, Daily Happy Hours, Cycle Rides and a Golf Tournament.
