The Federal Government has committed $16.4 million to upgrade Palau’s electricity network, enhancing grid reliability and supporting a shift toward renewable energy. The funding expands on earlier investment in Palau’s first large-scale solar plant and battery storage.
Australia and Palau formalised a letter of intent under the Australia–Pacific Partnership for Energy Transition. The partnership aims to deliver technical planning, policy support, and workforce training in renewable energy. It will also promote climate resilience by sharing solar and hydropower refurbishment technologies.
Foreign Minister Penny Wong said the investment shows Australia is supporting Pacific nations’ transition to renewable energy and reinforced that Palau, and other Pacific nations, can count on Australia to take meaningful action on climate change – at home and in partnership with the region.
Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen highlighted that the Australian‑backed solar facility will deliver around 20 per cent of Palau’s annual energy needs and reaffirmed Australia’s commitment “to accelerate the renewable energy transformation and build clean energy industries across our region.”
