Triangle Energy has announced that drilling at the Becos-1 exploration well in Western Australia’s Perth Basin is set to begin in April 2025.
The Silver City Rig 24, which will be used for the drilling operation, is expected to arrive on-site in the first week of April, with spudding anticipated the following week.
The well is being drilled as part of the EP 437 Joint Venture, which consists of Triangle Energy (50 per cent and operator), Strike Energy (25 per cent), and Echelon Resources (25 per cent).
According to Triangle, all civil construction work at the site has been completed, and preparations are in place for the rig’s mobilisation and setup, a process expected to take up to two weeks.
Becos-1 will target a fault-bounded structure in the Bookara Sandstone at the basal Triassic level.
Triangle has estimated a prospective resource range of between 1 million and 21 million barrels of oil, with a best estimate of 5 million barrels, of which 2.5 million barrels would be net to Triangle.
The geological chance of success for the well is assessed at 20 per cent.
The drilling plan outlines that the primary targets, the Arranoo and Bookara sandstones, are expected to be encountered between 700m and 800m measured depth, with the well reaching a total depth of 1140m.
Additional potential reservoirs, including the Kingia Formation, may also be present deeper in the Early Permian section.
Triangle Energy’s Managing Director, Conrad Todd, said the company was looking forward to progressing with the drilling campaign.
“We are excited to be ready to drill the Becos-1 well as the second drill in our Perth Basin campaign. Triangle
considers Becos a compelling target both in terms of the potential resource and the chance of success and we will
notify shareholders when the drilling commences,” Todd said.
The drilling operation is expected to take approximately 12 days, with an estimated seven days of actual drill time.
