The Western Australian government has awarded $342 million in contracts to GenusPlus, UGL Engineering and Acciona to advance the Clean Energy Link – North project.
It marks the largest investment in electricity transmission infrastructure in WA in over a decade.
These contracts are part of a broader $584 million State Budget commitment by Western Power to upgrade the South West Interconnected System, which represents a major milestone in WA’s clean energy transition. The contracted upgrades include a 26.5km overhead 132kV transmission line from Wangara to Neerabup, new 132kV and 330kV terminals, line conversions, and infrastructure enhancements at Regans Ford, Three Springs and around the Northern, Neerabup and Eneabba terminals.
The project is expected to create over 400 jobs and significantly boost the grid’s capacity to transport renewable energy. Once completed, Clean Energy Link – North will enable approximately 400MW of existing wind capacity and an additional 1GW of new renewable energy. That total exceeds the combined output of WA’s two largest state-owned coal-fired power stations.
“It will mean industry can reliably and safely connect their wind, solar and battery projects to the transmission network, increasing the amount of renewables on our system, with the aim of doubling them by 2030,” Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said.
