Empire appoints Peter Cleary as chairman

Galilee Energy QLD

Empire Energy has appointed Peter Cleary as chairman of the board, following the retirement of former chairman Paul Espie.

Empire made the announcement following the conclusion of the company’s annual general meeting.

Cleary, who was first elected to the board in 2020, has had significant stints in the oil and gas industry, representing Santos, North West Shelf venturers and BP in Asia.

He currently serves as a senior consultant with Diamond Gas International, Mitsubishi Corporation’s LNG marketing and business development subsidiary, and Shinka Management.

Former chairman Paul Espie AO served on Empire’s board since 2018, playing a significant role in various ventures such as the acquisition of Pangaea Resources in 2021 and the repositioning of the company towards its Beetaloo assets.

Under Espie AO, Empire has also drilled and fracture stimulated the longest horizontal section of any well onshore Australia at Carpentaria-3H.

The announcement follows a major upgrade to its EP187 contingent and prospective resources, which has the potential to service domestic and international LNG demand gaps.

In early May 2023, the company announced it is moving towards production approvals within the Beetaloo Sub-Basin, following the finalisation of the regulatory framework for gas production.
