Esso has lodged an environment plan for its Turrum Phase 3 drilling project, which covers the drilling of up to five gas production wells via a jack-up rig.
Drilling activities will take place at Esso’s Marlin B platform located in the Gippsland Basin in the eastern area of Bass Strait. The completed wells will be connected to the existing hydrocarbon production processing equipment located on the Marlin B platform.
Esso is targeting a start date in the third quarter of 2025, with the drilling and well completion expected to take roughly 300 days.
The company recently secured approval to develop another of its Gippsland Basin asset, the Kipper gas field. The plan covers the drilling and development of one well, which will take place at the Kipper subsea facility located in the production licence VIC/L25. The completed well will be connected to the existing Kipper subsea manifold through existing infrastructure that was installed during Kipper stage 1A.
The plan also includes a contingency activity if the new well does not flow as expected, where the rig will return to the well to undertake well stimulation/remediation activities including flow back and flaring.
