Federal Government shuffles the deck for energy transition

AEP congratulated Labor on its re-election

The Labor Government has been busy shuffling the cabinet in the wake of the Australian federal election.

Climate change and energy

Chris Bowen will retain his position as Minister for Climate Change and Energy. Bowen said the renewed government will provide an energy plan for Australia that delivers relief and security, while fully unlocking the country’s natural abundance and potential.

“From the sun in our skies to the critical minerals beneath our feet – we have everything we need right here to power our future. We’ve got the know-how and the people, and with governments, industry and workers pushing to this we can get it done,” he said.

Bowen said his immediate priority will be delivering an additional $150 in energy bill relief, which will be applied to household electricity bills in the second half of this year.

From 1 July, the cheaper home batteries policy will come into effect, providing a 30 per cent rebate on the cost of a typical home battery.

Josh Wilson has also retained his position as Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy.

Environment

Murray Watt is the new Minister for Environment and Water, with Tanya Plibersek now Minister for Social Services.

“Australia’s natural environment and waterways are the envy of the world and I look forward to playing my role in their protection, along with enabling ecologically sustainable economic development,” he said.
