ENEOS has opened its demonstration green hydrogen production facility in Queensland, officially kicking off production at the site.
Queensland’s position as a major player in the clean energy sector has been further confirmed with Japan’s largest oil company cutting the ribbon on its Bulwer Island site on 31 January.
The state’s Deputy Premier Steven Miles said that international relationships will play a critical role in cementing the state as a mainstay in the green energy transition.
“The Bulwer Island facility will have capacity to produce up to 20 kilograms of green hydrogen per day,” he said.
ENEOS is also building a 204-megawatt solar farm at Eden Vale in the state’s south east – further demonstration of its interest in capitalising on Queensland’s unique industry position.
Minister for Energy, Renewables and Hydrogen Mick de Brenni said that the state government is sending a very clear message regarding its interest in accelerating its net zero targets.
“This project by ENEOS is further proof of the opportunity that green hydrogen presents for sectors such as road transport, aviation, ammonia for fertiliser and explosives as well as to create industrial heat and power generation for mining and steel production,” he said.
ENEOS Senior Vice President Yuichiro Fujiyama said that the company intends to expand the scale of the project in the near future.
