PPA signs on to collaborate with Japan

PPA signs MoU with Japan's Port of Himeji

Western Australia’s Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA) has signed an agreement with Japan’s Port of Himeji to foster a renewable energy supply chain.

WA Premier Mark McGowan witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA) and Japan’s Port of Himeji.

The MoU will support both parties in working towards renewable energy and net zero initiatives.

Ports Minister Rita Saffioti said that she looks forward to seeing the MoU lead towards a green energy transition.

“The McGowan Government is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050… With the Port of Himeji one of the largest importers of LNG exported from PPA ports, an opportunity was identified to explore port infrastructure and initiatives to support decarbonisation,” Saffioti said

It builds on existing trade relationships, with Himeji already importing liquified natural gas and other mined resources from Pilbara.

“WA’s ports are the lifeblood of our export industries and will play a key role as we embrace new low-carbon industries and opportunities,” said McGowan.
