“During my first interview with the team at Supagas, I was impressed by their passion, authenticity, and genuine desire to make a difference. Their energy resonated with me, and I knew I wanted to be part of such a dynamic team,” he said.

As Corporate Sales Manager, Johnstone oversees a national team responsible for sectors such as oil and gas, helium, and their tender and retention teams. His role involves collaborating with leaders at Supagas and spending considerable time in the field visiting customers while also coaching the team on various sales techniques.

“It’s about more than just managing a team,” he said. “I’m constantly working to develop a high-performing group, while also keeping an eye on the next opportunities that will drive our business forward.”

A key part of his responsibilities includes positioning Supagas’s offerings effectively in a competitive market.

“Our team consistently seeks new ways to promote our products across different industries. What matters most to me is our people; they are the key to our success,” he said.

Supagas’s company motto, “yes, we can,” is more than just a slogan for Johnstone – it’s a core principle that guides his leadership.

“It means going above and beyond to exceed the needs of our customers and colleagues. It’s not about saying “no, I can’t,” but rather focusing on how we can make things happen.”

One example of this mindset in action came is when Supagas faced a driver shortage, potentially impacting a key delivery.

“I approached an employee who had previously been a driver, now working in a different role, and he didn’t hesitate,” Johnstone said.

“He simply said: That’s what I do, and it’s my job. That’s the attitude we strive for at Supagas.”

In a highly competitive energy market, Johnstone credits thorough business knowledge and data insights as key strategies for maintaining strong client relationships. His team’s focus is not only on acquiring new clients but also on retention through a deep understanding of customer challenges.

“Client retention is a crucial component of our operations. By spending time with existing customers, we can effectively address their needs and identify areas for improvement,” he said.

Johnstone’s approach highlights the importance of communication in building robust relationships with both internal and external customers. By leading with a “yes, we can” attitude and fostering a strong team culture, Allen Johnstone continues to drive Supagas forward in the competitive energy landscape.
