Santos to drill offshore WA

Santos drill WA

Santos has received the green light to drill the Halyard-2 production well in the Greater East Spar field located 100km north of Onslow, Western Australia.

The Halyard-2 well is set to replace the existing Halyard-1 well, which is now depleted. The activities will occur within the WA-13-L and WA-45-L, within the Carnarvon Basin, in water depths ranging from approximately 95m to 125m.

The Halyard-2 well will be drilled from within 13-L with the bottomhole extending into WA-45-L. The moorings of the mobile offshore drilling unit may also extend into the permit area.

Under this environment plan, Santos will undertake various activities such as; drilling and completing the Halyard-2 development well, installing subsea equipment to connect the Halyard-2 well to the existing pipeline and manifold and pre-commissioning activities.

Commissioning and operation of the Halyard-2 well will be undertaken in accordance with the Varanus Island Hub operations environment plan, under revision to include the commissioning and operation of the Halyard-2 well.

The activities are planned to occur between 2024 and the end of 2026. Drilling and completion are anticipated to take 50 days and subsea installation, and pre-commissioning is set to take 15 days to complete.
