Strike, Clarke ink $48.5m gas engine deal

Strike Clarke gas engines

Strike Energy has signed a $48.5 million contract with Clarke Energy to procure gas reciprocating engines for its South Erregulla gas power plant.

Strike Energy entered into the fixed price contract to obtain and commission twenty 4.5MW Jenbacher reciprocating gas engines from Clarke Energy.

According to Strike, reciprocating gas engines have been preferred over turbine technology due to their higher efficiencies and quicker start-up and response times.

The company noted that the Jenbacher gas engines are a proven technology particularly in Western Australia, where they generate more than 358MWs of power from 128 engines in operation.

Since 2017, Clarke Energy has also delivered the engines into the U.K. where they supply more than 410MWs of peaking gas fired power.

Execution of the contract secures Strike’s fabrication slots in the Jenbacher factory and delivery times in order to meet the October 2026 start-up date for the power plant within the South Erregulla gas field in L24.

As part of the contract, Clarke Energy will also provide commissioning support to the peaking has power plant. This fixed price contract is in line with Strike’s mid case estimates for total project cost.
