Strike Energy has reached 4593m measured depth at the Erregulla Deep-1 exploration well in the Perth Basin.
The company noted that gas shows whilst drilling were measured over the Dongara and Wagina formations and wireline logs were run over the section. While poor borehole conditions resulted in comprised log data, Strike Energy said analysis suggests a potential gas accumulation within the Wagina Sandstone.
The company will now drill out into the target zone hole section and will provide an update on preliminary observations and the forward plan for the well once it has reached total depth.
The news follows Strike receiving a production licence for its West Erregulla gas field, which has an estimated gross 452 petajoules (PJ) of 2P Reserves plus 2C and Contingent Resources.
“Receiving production licence L25 further derisks the path for the development of the West Erregulla gas field,” Strike Energy managing director Stuart Nicholls said at the time.
“West Erregulla, Strike’s flagship asset, will be a timely and major source of new gas in WA, which will produce well into the 2040s.”
Strike Energy acts as operator and holds 50 per cent working interest in the EP469 joint venture, while partner Warrego Energy holds the remaining 50 per cent.
