Strike Energy has announced gas testing at South Erregulla-3 (SE-3) has not met expectations due to a possible gas-water contact.
The well’s production tubing was perforated on Monday, 5 February, according to the company, and failed to flow upon opening.
Strike Energy also noted that the well was observed to be “substantially overbalance”. The company proceeded to plug off the zones and mobilise nitrogen to displace the well fluid and move the well into an under-balance state.
On February 8, the plug was removed and had no initial flow. Following the well shut-in, Strike collected reservoir fluid for further analysis.
“The SE-3 flow test has not matched its petrophysical interpretation, which is disappointing,” Strike Energy managing director and chief executive officer Stuart Nicholls said.
“Further analysis and data collection is ongoing and Strike is reviewing the potential to return to the well.”
Nicholls also said the company will shift its focus going forward.
“Looking forward, Strike will be drilling the Walyering–7 and Erregulla Deep–1 wells in this half, which have the potential to add material 2P developed and undeveloped volumes on success,” he said.
“Also, of note Strike has commenced its Ocean Hill 3D seismic acquisition which may provide the well location for the contingent appraisal well Ocean Hill–2 later in the year.”
