Triangle, Pilot step closer to Cliff Head CCS

Cliff Head

The Cliff Head joint venture (JV) are finalising submissions for the regulatory approvals required for stage one of the Cliff Head carbon capture and storage (CCS) project.

The Cliff Head CCS project is a major element of the Mid West Clean Energy project (MWCEP), which includes CCS as well as hydrogen and ammonia production.

The JV, consisting of Triangle Energy and Pilot Energy, is expecting to lodge the submission with the National Offshore Petroleum titles Administrator (NOPTA) in the coming weeks.

Pilot Chairman Brad Lingo said the company is seeing progress in all material aspects of the Cliff Head CCS project.

“The MWCEP will provide for the direct ability to reduce significant and growing CO2 emissions in the Mid West region of Western Australia. The project will provide a safe and permanent solution to make a material contribution to Australia meeting its greenhouse gas emissions reduction commitments,” he said.

The project aims to store captured CO2 in an identified greenhouse gas formation in the JV’s WA 31-L tenement.

New Energy Technology (NET) will market ammonia volumes from MWCEP on behalf of pilot, targeting Asian markets.

The majority of the marketing fee for this agreement is linked to future sales of ammonia.

Pilot has entered an agreement with 8 Rivers Capital which sees an option for 50 per cent of blue ammonia production from the MWCEP to 8 Rivers.
