Victoria energy hub takes shape

Renewable energy company Yanara has appointed Gamuda Australia as the delivery partner for the early contractor involvement (ECI) phase of the Mortlake Energy Hub Stage 1, a major integrated renewable energy project in southwest Victoria.

The first stage of the development will feature a 435MW-plus solar farm alongside a 1200MWh battery energy storage system and a 300MW connection point, adding to Yanara’s growing 2GW renewables pipeline in the country.

Gamuda was selected for its experience delivering sustainable infrastructure and its commitment to community benefits, including jobs and regional advantages. The company will lead design and approvals, manage public road consents, oversee project management plans and drive procurement of key equipment and works packages. The hub, to be built on a 1060-hectare site and tied into the existing Mortlake Terminal Station via a new substation, will store renewable energy for dispatch during peak demand without the need for new overhead transmission lines, enhancing grid reliability for Victorians. Once operational the facility is expected to power around 200,000 homes annually and support the state’s transition to cleaner, more resilient energy.
