Woodside Energy has announced that the largest compressor module has arrived at the Pluto Train 2 construction site.
The first of three refrigeration compressor modules for Pluto Train 2 has safely arrived in Karratha and will be pieced together on site by the Woodside Energy and Bechtel Corporation construction teams.
The compressor module weighs in at 3460 metric tonnes and is 60m long and 30m wide. When installation is complete, more than 3600 cubic metres of concrete will be poured around the module base foundation, compressor deck and support columns to set the module in place.
Forming part of the Scarborough Energy Project, this milestone for Pluto Train 2 signifies another step forward for the construction phase of the project.
“It’s our priority to ensure the benefits of Scarborough are shared amongst Western Australians and used to fund the next steps in our energy transition. The economic benefits to WA are significant and the energy that is produced can play an important role globally,” Woodside chief executive officer and managing director Meg O’Neill said.
The Scarborough Energy Project will contribute an estimated $19 billion in direct taxes, has a commitment to spend $90 million with local Karratha businesses and is targeting first LNG cargo in 2026.
