Woodside Energy has reached a significant milestone at its Pluto LNG project, successfully loading its 1000th cargo onto the Gaslog Salem for delivery to partner Kansai Electric.
This achievement coincides with 20 years since Pluto’s discovery in 2004 and reflects the rapid development of the project since 2005.
Pluto LNG processes gas from the offshore Pluto and Xena fields, with gas transported via a 180 km trunkline to a single onshore LNG-processing train. The project is supported by long-term agreements with Kansai Electric and MidOcean Energy, each holding a 5 per cent stake.
In line with future growth, Woodside is expanding Pluto LNG with the construction of a second gas processing train, Pluto Train 2, expected to have a production capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa).
The expansion will also enhance domestic gas capacity and accommodate gas from the Scarborough Energy Project, with up to 3 Mtpa to be processed at Pluto Train 1.
According to Woodside, the Pluto–KGP Interconnector pipeline, linking Pluto LNG and the Karratha Gas Plant, will further optimise production and increase both domestic gas and LNG output, supporting future gas reserve developments.
