Woodside Energy recently celebrated its long-standing partnership with Japan at its Karratha gas plant in WA.
Woodside has been supplying Japan with liquefied natural gas (LNG) for over 30 years, and the 6000th LNG cargo from its North West Shelf Project, delivered last September, also led to Japan.
“Like the first LNG cargo 33 years ago, the 6000th cargo was also destined for Japan,” the company said on LinkedIn.
“With the support of our Japanese partners and buyers, we have built the foundations of the LNG industry in Australia – an industry that has a vital role to play in delivering reliable energy globally.”
In November last year, Jadestone Energy acquired a non-operated 16.67 per cent working interest in the Cossack, Wanaea, Lambert and Hermes (CQLG) oil field developments of the North West Shelf Project.
Earlier this year, Woodside and the North West Shelf Project participants entered into separate non-binding agreements with Western Gas.
At the time, Woodside Energy’s chief executive officer Meg O’Neill said that by leveraging existing infrastructure, Woodside would enable Western Gas to access a competitive option to supply Asian LNG markets while providing additional domestic gas security for WA.
“This is an important step in maximising utilisation of our existing infrastructure to deliver domestic gas and LNG to local and global customers and value for our shareholders and community,” O’Neill said.
“The proposed gas processing opportunity with Western Gas for the Equus offshore resource demonstrates the flexibility provided by the Pluto-KGP Interconnector, which commenced operations in March 2022, to optimise available capacity at our world-class facilities.”
