Woodside questions APPEA focus

Mr Coleman questioned the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association’s (APPEA) policy positions regarding the east coast, as well as gas reservation and climate change.

“While many things happening within APPEA are being driven by the east coast, and have been driven by the east coast for a number of years, our encouragement is to get APPEA to start focusing on its original mandate and its grassroots,”? said Mr Coleman.

Woodside has recently come out in support for Western Australia’s gas reservation policy, which is in stark contrast to APPEA’s position on the subject, as well as distancing itself from transfer pricing tax issues currently affecting the LNG export industry.

Mr Coleman also revealed that Woodside considered withdrawing its membership from APPEA, but decided it was better to stay “inside the tent”?.

He said APPEA needs to focus on its original mandate of encouraging exploration and maintaining the industry’s social licence to operate.
